Toledo, the capital of the Castile-La Mancha region, 70 km southwest of Madrid, is undoubtedly one of the most important cities in Spanish history. Bearing traces of all civilizations that have passed through Spain, the city is surrounded by the Tajo River and is built on steep, fortified cliffs, enclosed by high walls; it has always been a valuable city throughout history, from the Romans to the Visigoths, and from the Andalusians to the Spanish Kingdom. Toledo was also the center for Judaism until the late 15th century; it hosts many important structures, including the oldest synagogue still standing in Europe, several churches converted from mosques, and the magnificent cathedral where Spain is religiously governed, representing a mosaic of the three Abrahamic religions and peoples intertwined. Prior to the empire relocating the capital to Madrid in 1561, Toledo was a political, cultural, commercial, and military center and has inspired Cervantes's timeless work, Don Quixote, much of which is set in this city and its surroundings. For all these reasons, Toledo is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. During our visit, we will see the famous viewpoint of the city, San Martin Bridge, San Juan Monastery, the Jewish Quarter, Santo Tome Church, Santa Maria Cathedral Square, the shopping street where you can find everything typical to the city, and the central Zocodover Square. In the free time afterward, you can taste the marzipan specific to Toledo, or try the aged sheep cheese Manchego, known worldwide and named after this region. During our panoramic city tour, we will see the main street Grand Via, the historical La Rambla Square, and the Mayor's Square Plaza del Carmen. After our city tour, we will embark on a visit to the Alhambra Palace. Granada was a Muslim city during the middle ages, and this city was protected by the magnificent fortress known as Alhambra located on the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The Alhambra Palace, due to its location and high walls accompanied by 37 towers, dominated the skies of Granada. Its construction lasted more than 150 years. However, the reason Alhambra Palace is the most visited site in Spain is more than just being a well-fortified military refuge. It is a palace where pleasures were pursued within its elegant courtyards, a place of lethal intrigues, and the largest and most beautiful example of Islamic architecture in the West. Adorned with phrases saying “There is no victor but Allah” engraved thousands of times on its walls, the enchanting palace resembles something from the tales of the 1001 Arabian Nights; it was unexpectedly lost by Sultan 12. Muhammad (Boabdil) to Queen Isabel. In that same year, it was declared the main palace of the Spanish Crown and the royal decisions that initiated Christopher Columbus's voyages were made there. All of the stories known today about the palace were compiled by renowned author Washington Irving under the title "Tales of the Alhambra". During our tour, we will visit the Garden of the Arif, the Summer Palace, the famous Emperor Charles V's Palace, Alcazaba Fortress and, depending on the availability, we will tour the Nasrid Palace.
