Central European Schengen Visa Guide (2026)
With its historic squares, impressive architecture and unique city atmosphere, Prague, Vienna and Budapest are among the most preferred destinations for those planning a European trip. Before exploring this unforgettable route, one of the most important steps to complete is the Schengen visa application. Although the process may seem complicated for first-time applicants, it is possible to complete the procedures smoothly with proper preparation and complete documents.
As Go Mia Travel, we have gathered all the important points you need to pay attention to in the visa process while planning your Central Europe trip.
What Is a Schengen Visa?
The Schengen Visa is a short-stay travel permit that allows you to enter the 29 countries in the Schengen Area, where border controls have been abolished, with a single visa. Countries such as Austria, Czechia, Hungary and Germany are included in this area. With a valid Schengen visa, you can travel between countries within the area without passport control, except in exceptional cases.
For tours covering Prague, Vienna and Budapest, a Type C Tourist Schengen Visa is generally required.
Which Country Should the Schengen Application Be Made To?
One of the most commonly confused issues during the application is choosing the correct consulate. According to Schengen rules, you must make your application based on the following criteria.
The Country Where You Will Stay the Longest
You should submit your application through the consulate or authorized application center of the country where you will spend the most nights during your trip. For example, if you will stay 3 nights in Prague, 2 nights in Vienna and 2 nights in Budapest, you must apply through Czechia.
The First Country You Will Enter
If you will stay an equal amount of time in all countries, the first country you will enter in the Schengen Area determines your application authority.
Required Documents for the 2026 Schengen Visa
Although application documents may vary slightly depending on the country, the basic documents are largely the same. Besides being complete, it is also very important that the documents support each other and contain consistent information.
Basic Documents
- A passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the end date of the trip
- At least two blank visa pages
- A biometric photograph taken within the last 6 months
- A completely filled and signed Schengen application form
Financial and Professional Documents
Consulates want to see that you can finance your trip and that you have ties that bind you to return to Türkiye.
Documents to be prepared include:
- Bank account statements for the last three months
- A bank-certified account summary showing regular account activity
- For employees: SGK service record, salary slip, employment entry notice and employer leave letter
- For company owners: tax registration certificate, activity certificate and company documents
are included.
Why Travel Documents Are Important
For your application to be strong, your travel plan must be clearly documented.
The main documents you should prepare are:
- Round-trip flight reservations
- Accommodation reservations
- A day-by-day prepared travel plan
- Schengen-compliant travel health insurance with coverage of at least 30,000 Euro
It is of great importance that the dates in these documents are consistent with each other.
Fingerprint and Appointment Process
After completing your documents, you need to book an appointment through the authorized visa application center of the relevant country.
If you have not provided biometric data for a Schengen visa within the last 59 months, you are required to visit the application center in person on your appointment day to complete the fingerprinting procedure.
Since appointment demand can be intense especially during the summer season, public holidays and religious holiday periods, it is recommended to plan your application at least 45 days before your travel date.
Suggestions to Increase Your Chances of Visa Approval
Some important points that may contribute to a positive evaluation of your application are:
- Prepare a short and explanatory letter of intent describing the purpose of your trip.
- Add additional assets such as title deeds, vehicle registration or rental income to your file.
- Support your travel history by presenting previously obtained Schengen visas and entry-exit records.
- Pay attention to ensuring that all dates and information in the documents are consistent with each other.
