This famous monument was begun in the 13th century as a defensive fortress and palace on a plateau atop the Sabika hill overlooking Granada, and construction continued until the 15th century. Due to the red earth used in its construction, it took on a reddish hue and was named Alhambra, meaning "The Red". Guests who wish can also join our Extra Grand Neighborhoods (Albaicin and Sacromonte Gypsy Quarter) tour. (60 Euro) Albaicin is a historic and enchanting neighborhood of Granada. Listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, this area is famous for its narrow streets, whitewashed houses, and scenic hills.
