Toledo is a true open-air museum and the former capital of Spain, one of the most important cities on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Known as the city of El Greco, Toledo has managed to remain unchanged since the 16th century. Buildings bearing traces of Roman, Visigothic, Arab, Gothic and Renaissance architecture, narrow streets, El Greco’s paintings, typical pastry shops, Damascene shops and, of course, its famous cathedral make it a tourist attraction. Another tradition in Toledo is the production of almond paste, dating back to the time when the Arabs conquered the city. A visit to Toledo is not complete without tasting this mouthwatering sweet.
